Be Safe on the Road
All of our organs are constantly working overtime to keep our body functioning properly. Our brain, though, is fundamental to these functions; it controls our ability to think and feel, our memories and feelings, and coordinates actions/reactions. Our brain makes us who we are.
So what could happen to us if something damaged our brain’s natural abilities? One of the most common causes of brain damage is a car accident. During an accident, your head can suddenly move backward and then forwards at an intense rate, which can cause the brain to become contorted and squeezed within the skull. This is called whiplash and can have serious results on your brain’s health. Symptoms following whiplash can include headaches, dizziness, neck pain, and more.
Is a healthy brain important to you? Typically, you might associate keeping the brain healthy with things like nutritious food, sleep, and physical exercise. It’s time to consider the fact that driving safe will reduce your risk of brain injury.
What are some ways you could improve your driving habits?
- Be aware of your surroundings at all times. This means putting down your cell phone and focusing all of your attention directly on the road.
- Wear your seatbelt, and be sure you are properly positioned in your seat.
- Going the speed limit is not only safer but can also be cheaper. This completely diminishes your chances of getting a speeding ticket, while also reducing your risk of an accident.
- Don’t drive when you’re sleepy. Instead, try to carpool or take public transportation. This is for your safety and the safety of others on the road.
Not only will you be protecting your brain, but also the brains of all your passengers and the other drivers on the road as well.
